About Me

Sonya-DeWitt I have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State for 26 years. I’ve worked in inpatient hospitals, outpatient Community Mental Health Centers and have had a private practice in four locations in Western Washington. Using therapeutic approaches all evidence based, I’ve worked extensively with families and individuals in crisis and in the area of complex trauma.  I’ve helped individuals who experienced severe child abuse, depression and anxiety. I have years of experience working with families who struggle with multiple issues both with their children as well as in their relationship.

For couples counseling I use an approach informed by Internal Family Systems and the Gottman method to get a sense of where you align and where you have distance with your partner.  Then, we work together and build positive communication systems and rebuild the intimacy, trust and commitment that brought you together in the first place.  Depending upon your personality and goals, I customize the therapeutic approach to find why you are blocked and help you establish a new way of being in the relationship that is more fulfilling for both you and your partner.

All of life’s issues, stresses and problems have paths to resolution and happiness, but each of our maps are different. One size does not fit all. Hence the need for personalized approaches to find your path and methods to regain your strength, resilience and success.  Please believe me when I say no situation or personal experience is hopeless. That is simply not the truth. The truth is that you can find happiness and there are many maps and methods that will lead you to where you want to go.  You have choices along the way.

I relocated to Spokane four years ago and was most recently a Clinical Director for a local community mental health agency. I am now launching my full time private practice and have an office in North Spokane.  I have also been a Supervisor for other clinicians and found that to be a deeply satisfying experience to be able to “pay it forward.”  Honestly, there is no situation too upsetting, confusing or difficult that I have not successfully worked with previously.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss your situation with me directly, don’t hesitate to send me an email or call for a quick consultation.  I will connect with you shortly.  Don’t wait any longer.  There is no need to suffer or feel despair.
